About the event
Living Auricular Protocols
Individualized Auricular Approaches to Common Clinical Presentations
A 15-hour live online clinical course from the Canadian Institute of Auricular Medicine
A protocol should give us somewhere to begin—not tell us where to end.
Living Auricular Protocols (LAPs) are designed as flexible clinical maps. They bring together auricular points and relationships that may be relevant to a particular presentation, while allowing the treatment to remain responsive to the individual patient.
Rather than treating every point in a protocol, we ask: Which of these points are active for this person, at this time?
Throughout this 9-week live online course, we will explore six common clinical presentations through the lens of Auricular Medicine. We will consider anatomical, neurological, autonomic, meridian, functional and emotional relationships, while using pointfinding, patient feedback and the Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS) to help individualize treatment.
The six clinical modules are supported by three live Clinical Integration Labs, creating an opportunity not only to learn the protocols, but to develop the clinical reasoning and practical skills needed to work with them.
Course Schedule
Every Monday, October 12 – December 7, 2026
All times are Eastern Time (ET).
Monday, October 12 | 12:00–1:00 PM
Integration Lab 1 — Pointfinding, Precision & Patient Feedback
We begin with the practical foundation. Explore the difference between a mapped point and an active point, individual variation in ear anatomy, point tenderness, treatment precision and the use of the VAS to refine point location and selection.
Monday, October 19 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Anxiety, Stress & Nervous System Regulation
Explore anxiety, worry and stress through the broader context of nervous-system regulation. We will consider sympathetic and parasympathetic relationships, vagal tone, physical manifestations of stress, relevant meridian and emotional relationships, and the Living Auricular Protocol for individualized treatment.
Monday, October 26 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Beyond Pain: Understanding Chronic Pain Through the Ear
Move beyond simply treating where it hurts. This module explores anatomical auricular representation alongside central pain processing, regulatory and stabilizing points, Pain Memory and other considerations that may be relevant when pain persists.
Monday, November 2 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Digestive Health & the Gut–Brain Connection
Explore digestive function through the relationship between the gastrointestinal system, autonomic nervous system and brain. We will examine relevant digestive anatomy on the ear, vagal and regulatory relationships, dietary and emotional influences, and an individualized LAP approach to digestive presentations.
Monday, November 9 | 12:00–1:00 PM
Integration Lab 2 — From Protocol to Patient
This interactive clinical session brings the first three modules together. Through guided cases and discussion, we will explore how to move from a general LAP to an individualized treatment: Which points matter? Where do we begin? What does the patient's presentation tell us? How can the VAS help refine the treatment?
Monday, November 16 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Hormones & Endocrine Balance
Explore endocrine regulation through the hierarchy of the hypothalamus, pituitary and peripheral glands. We will consider the HPA axis, relevant auricular endocrine and regulatory points, and how to determine which level of the system may be most relevant to the individual patient.
Monday, November 23 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Sleep, Circadian Rhythm & Restoration
Not all sleep disturbances are the same. Explore circadian regulation, the Pineal gland, difficulty falling or staying asleep, mental and emotional activation, physical discomfort, meridian relationships and the Living Auricular Protocol for sleep.
Monday, November 30 | 12:00–2:00 PM
Allergies, Sensitivities & Building Resilience
This module introduces another dimension of individualized Auricular Medicine: using the VAS and polarized filter to explore a patient's response to dietary and environmental influences. We will discuss assessment, treatment considerations, reassessment and an auricular approach focused on supporting greater resilience.
Monday, December 7 | 12:00–1:00 PM
Integration Lab 3 — Building a Living Auricular Protocol
We finish by turning the process over to you. Using a clinical presentation, we will work together to identify relevant anatomical, functional, autonomic and other relationships, build a Living Auricular Protocol, and then explore how patient findings and VAS feedback transform that general map into an individualized treatment.

A Living Auricular Protocol is a map, not a prescription.
Learn the framework. Find what is active. Listen to the patient. Allow the treatment to become individual.
Structured enough to learn. Responsive enough to adapt.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is designed to be broadly accessible to practitioners interested in Auricular Medicine, including acupuncturists, healthcare professionals, holistic practitioners, and students who want to deepen their understanding of individualized auricular treatment.
No previous CIAM training is required.
A basic familiarity with the auricular map will be helpful, but you do not need previous experience with the VAS. Our first Clinical Integration Lab will establish the foundations of accurate pointfinding, patient feedback, treatment precision, and the use of the VAS within the Living Auricular Protocol approach.
New to Auricular Medicine?
If the ear map itself is new to you, or you would like a refresher before the course begins, our online Ear Point Guide is an excellent way to become familiar with the basic landscape of the ear before we begin.
To Register for the Ear Point Guide, CLICK HERE.
Live Learning + Lifetime Recording Access
All nine sessions will be recorded.
Full-course participants will receive lifetime access to the course recordings, allowing you to revisit the clinical modules and Integration Labs whenever you need them.
Individual module participants will receive lifetime recording access to the module(s) for which they registered.
15 NCCAOM (NCBAHM) PDA Points — Approval Pending
CIAM has applied for 15 PDA points for the complete Living Auricular Protocols course.
To qualify for the 15 PDA points, participants must attend the required live course sessions. Recorded sessions are provided as an ongoing educational resource and are not a substitute for live attendance for PDA purposes.
The three Clinical Integration Labs are available exclusively to participants registered for the complete course.
