Discover the Pulse That Guides True Healing

The Vascular Autonomic Signal (VAS) in Auricular Medicine

The Vascular Autonomic Signal—known as VAS Pulse—is a subtle and precise biofeedback technique, felt as a change in the amplitude of the pulse, often at the radial artery. It occurs in real-time as the autonomic nervous system responds to new information, such as passing over auricular points, applying frequencies, or therapeutic filters.

The VAS Pulse is dynamic, and is always giving you information about what is happening in this moment with this person. When working with the VAS, we are applying our understanding of electromagnetic resonance – which can also be understood in terms of bio photogenic (the light radiating from a life form).

Practitioners trained in VAS develop the ability to detect this signal manually through their fingertips (usually the thumb), transforming the pulse into a direct communication channel with the nervous system. It is non-verbal, systemic, and neurologically grounded—offering insight that goes far beyond what verbal intake or observation alone can reveal.

Why VAS is a Game-Changer in Clinical Practice

The VAS pulse is not just another diagnostic technique—it’s a gateway into the body's inner knowing. By using VAS, practitioners can:

  • Access real-time feedback from the nervous system

  • Detect hidden blockages to healing (e.g., scars, traumas, interference fields, dental)

  • Prioritize treatment options based on the body's own response

  • Track shifts in the therapeutic process moment-by-moment

  • Confirm your precision of the treatment before moving on

In complex or trauma-laden cases, the VAS Pulse shines as a compass. It helps cut through the noise of symptoms and points directly to what the system is ready to work on—now.

A Foundational Skill in Auricular Medicine

In order to learn and practice Auricular Medicine in a deep way, the VAS Pulse is essential. Beyond finding and treating symptom points and finding and treating old injuries that may be blocking healing, there is a whole world of assessment that opens up when you are able to feel the VAS Pulse with confidence.

One key element in our VAS Pulse training is centering and grounding techniques. This is something that is pure gold when it comes to building confidence in this skill. If we are able to clear our mind and feel grounded, even for a moment – detecting the VAS Pulse will become second nature. This is why instructor, Dave Maybee guides you thoughtfully in mindful qigong and meditation practice during CIAM’s live VAS courses.

Because it is so subtle, learning to feel and trust the VAS requires guided hands-on practice, repetition, and feedback. But once you get it, you don’t go back.

This is why we’ve developed the VAS Confidence Building Course—a four-day immersive, designed to help practitioners:

  • Feel and identify the VAS Pulse reliably

  • Learn proper positioning, and testing procedures

  • Reconnect to your center and practice grounding techniques

  • Gain clarity in the clinical use of filters, points, and ear map
